What extras should I include in my first aid kit?
Emergency Contact Information: important phone numbers such as Plunket Help Line, Healthline and your local GP. Write down and store inside the pouch, consider taping it down.
Over the Counter Pain Relief: over the counter medicines such as liquid paracetamol or ibuprofen for your baby can come in handy at any time, not just while adventuring. Reduce fevers, aches, pains etc. Always consult with your GP before use.
Infant Gas Relief Drops: Gripe water or gas relief drops for babies help break down the air bubbles so gas can be passed easier, resulting in much less pain and fuss for everyone.
Antibiotic Ointment: Prevent and treat skin infections from minor cuts, scrapes or burns. Antibiotic creams kill all bacteria that could potentially lead to an infection. Best applied directly after cleaning the wound.
Calamine Lotion: Soothe baby's skin from itching and rashes caused by allergic reactions, insect bites or chicken pox. Ensure your calamine lotion is suitable for use on infants and always consult with your GP before use.
Sunscreen & Insect Repellent: Prevent bug bites and sunburns for your baby. Everyday essentials readily available in travel size. Before application, always ensure sunscreen and insect repellent is specifically safe for babies to use.
